Hey, so looking to install a cold air intake, saw good reviews about a S&B cold air intake, people say there isn't much noise but they feel the car more quicker to react, just looking for more options for cold air intakes. Thanks sm

What’s your goal with adding an intake? That will better answer the question.

respectfully, what do people mean when they ask "is it worth it".
sorry OP, not specifically directing at you, but I see this asked a lot and don't know how to answer it.
is it a dollar amount to horsepower thing? worth the time out of the day to install? a worthy upgrade over the OEM part?
really hope I don't come off as a dick I've refrained from posting this so many times. it's just such a weird question to me. Is "what" worth "what"?

It's the exact opposite. Any improvement of your car being "quicker to react" or anything like that will just be a placebo in your head. An intake will do two things: look cool in your engine bay, and make WOOOSH WOOOSH noises. If that's worth it to you, nobody can say but yourself.
A closed intake, like the S&B, will make less than an open intake, but will still make more noise than stock. So decided whether you want an open or closed intake, then get whichever one you think looks the coolest.

x2, Please read up on the forums, there are TONS of threads asking this same question. Intakes are not a power adder. They make turbo sounds louder and thats it. You will not feel a difference in power after adding one

Great way to welcome new forum members. Yeesh.
Beware the S&B intake‘s fitment clashes with DSG stop/start models using the larger dimension battery.
An aftermarket intake MAY make a slight power increase (If not peak, then somewhere along the curve) over a factory modified. However, it WILL most likely make more noise.

The S&B intake box is HUGE. It looks really awesome and probably works just as well if not better than any other intake. From what I've seen the box is much more difficult to remove and replace than the OEM box. That's the biggest drawback I see with the S&B.

This isn't an issue on NA cars as far as I'm aware, only ROW, as NA cars don't utilize start\stop.

I have the S&B and love it. Looks good, sounds good and I can do open intake or closed. Also lower cost from the usual CF intakes that are common. Worth the coin if you’re wanting an intake.

I’ve seen a thread or two documenting the reported clash- particularly MK7.5 DSG models. Online vendors also state “for manual transmission only” and a forum member couldn’t get a clear answer even from S&B.

I have the S&B and I like it. I use it closed and still get decent sound. I have read fitment can clash with DSG but I have a 6MT so I can't speak to that first hand. if you are going for power alone, invest else where though. All depends on what you want and your plans for your car.

If I was in the market for an intake it's the one I would buy. Even for me at the hybrid level I have no interest in sacrificing filtration even if there was a 5-8whp gain (which I doubt) and the S&B seems to retain the most filtration. I also like buying from a company that makes air filters specifically instead of buying an intake from someone who also happens to make air filters. If you are looking for power you can increase power in other ways and get more bang for your buck.
If you are just looking for sound you need to look for an open intake like the IE or BMS one.

I would like to also add that the SB intake has fitment issues with those running large aftermarket factory location intercoolers like Magic/Majesty, Wagner, etc. @nype tried to install an SB intake on his car that has a Magic IC and it wouldn't fit.

NA cars absolutely have start/stop. I have it on my 18 SE. It's disabled of course.
