A guide showing you how to start and complete “A Tower of Trials” Side Story in Octopath Traveler 2, including unlocking the Conjurer Advanced Job and other rewards you gain for finishing it.

How to Start “A Tower of Trials” Side Story quest

This story can be started by any character by entering the Five-Tiered Tower in the town of Ku. Ku is the Southwesternmost city of Hinoeuma, located on the Western Continent of Solstia.

We can access this location by heading Southwest from Sai, or South then West from Wellgrove.

Hikari’s Chapter 5 story must be complete for the starting location to be accessible. Until then, this side story is unavailable.

Upon entering the Five-Tiered Tower, we’ll be approached by the Guide to the tower. He’ll warn us that only strong heroes will be able to conquer the tower.

After agreeing to accept the challenge and saying you’re prepared, we’ll begin the series of encounters immediately.

A Tower of Trials Full Quest Walkthrough

The Five-Tiered Tower is a bit of a tedious challenge to take on, but thankfully it’s not required to take it on all at once. After the first battle, we’ll be able to freely swap our party around by heading to the tavern, or resting at the inn to recover and conserve items.

However, it is still a series of tough boss encounters with various gimmicks to them. We’ll be covering each of these encounters separately, including recommended party setups for each floor. We’ll offer options that both include and exclude the advanced jobs, for those that may be taking on this challenge without those jobs.

Floor One – How to Defeat Gken

Gken isn’t a massive threat, as he’s meant as more of an introduction to what’s to come. He has a couple of gimmicks to work around, but overall not super painful. Compared to the upcoming bosses, Gken has less health, but fewer overall weaknesses. He’s only weak to Dagger, Bow, and Element-based attacks.

Key Mechanics

Gken’s most threatening skill is Purple Lightning, a multi-target melee hit, followed by a Lightning strike that also hits the full party. This Lightning strike can also inflict Unconcious. This makes it difficult to fully prevent or mitigate damage, but still possible.

Much of the damage can be mitigated with Thunderstorm or Lightning amulets, and Unconscious can be prevented with Conscious Stones. While not always the best option for this, these do remain an option to keep key party members alive or active.

His other gimmick will also kick in from his very first turn, where he activates Fluid Stance. This grants him Reflect against the next five Elemental attacks, making it difficult and risky to attack him with magic until we break him.

Outside of these two mechanics, Gken will typically attack with regular melee attacks. These can be easier to deal with, as they deal much less damage compared to Purple Lightning.

No Advanced Job Strategy

The first strategy is a solid option all around, even without advanced jobs it makes it easier to handle the encounter with ease. The biggest thing is mitigating Unconcious, as the damage can usually be out-healed fairly easily.

This setup uses no advanced jobs or their respective support skills. This makes it accessible to everyone, without any expectations being set outside of having all characters.

The idea behind this strategy is to ensure Agnea can both survive and consistently set up the Apothecary’s Rehabilitate skill. This prevents Unconcious from being a problem for everyone else. It’s still recommended to have a Conscious Stone on her, for the rare moments that we’re not able to keep Rehabilitate up, or Gken gets an action first in a turn after it expires.

Boost-Start and Full Power ensure that she will have the ability to get a good duration Rehabilitate on her first turn. Full Power can also be exchanged if we use the inn prior to the start of the fight and have a full Latent Power Gauge.

Between this, her primary role will be using Healing Touch for healing as well as any reviving necessary. If she applies Sealticge’s Seduction Healing Touch can heal a substantial amount, while also being able to revive fallen party members.

Ochette’s role is breaking, as well as additional damage and support. The combination of the Champion’s Belt and Mikka’s Necklace ensures she’s able to hit both hard and reliably. This allows her to use Precise Shot to quickly break Gken. If she lacks BP to do so, she’s also able to use Abating Orb to remove Fluid Stance, allowing a mage to also deal damage if desired.

Hikari could really be any attacker of our choosing, but I recommend him here as his Learned Skills offer a good amount of options, including some multi-hit bow skills. The only Support Skill that could be swapped here would be Bolstering Break, but it’s still a free setup when he does break.

Depending on what equipment you have access to and which secondary job we give him, Hikari can very easily take down Gken off a single break. This becomes incredibly easy if we’ve managed to pick up the Battle-Tested Blade beforehand.

The last character is an open slot. We could put anyone we want here and be okay. Though a source of consistent team healing is recommended.

Advanced Job Strategy

This setup assumes we will have access to at least three advanced jobs in Arcanist, Inventor, and Armsmaster. This setup is strong enough to tackle all 5 fights as well, which means we’ll be referring to it a lot going forward.

The only downside to this particular setup is that it requires a lot of set up to get going as well as constant reapplication of buffs. This can be rough in a few fights, but overall works in every fight.

Agnea and Partitio are our core support duo. Agnea’s first priority will be to get Sealticge’s Seduction on Partitio, so alongside the Seal of Diffusion he sets up on turn one, he’ll be able to spread both Sidestep and Reflective Barrier. Of the Two, Priority should be given to Reflective Barrier, as that requires Sealticge’s Seduction to spread.

Alongside setting up Seal of Diffusion before the fight starts, A Step Ahead also functionally allows all four characters to have maximum BP for their first turn. Since the addition action granted by A Step Ahead counts as a full turn, it’s best to have Partitio take this Support Skill, as he’s the only one that needs any immediate setup.

In addition to occasionally granting Sealticge’s Seduction to Partito, Agnea will also be able to use All Together Now in combination with a fully boosted Arkar’s Coil to completely refill the party’s HP, SP, and BP. Though that’s best saved for tight situations, where all of the effects are useful.

Since Throne’s immediate priority will be breaking Gken, she’s free to use the first turn to Disguise herself as Temenos and the following turn use her BP to grant Temenos Alephan’s Wisdom, so he’s set up to also deal damage. It’s not really necessary for this fight in particular, but a good strategy for later.

Temenos is set up to be a high-damage mage, between the Scholar Spells and Cleric Spells, he also covers four of the six elements. Throne and Partitio can cover Dark when needed, while Agnea can cover Wind as needed. Once an enemy is broken Heavenly Shine is capable of dealing insane damage equivalent to what we’d expect from most Divine Skills, at least while under the effects of Alephan’s Wisdom.

While Throne and Temenos will deal most of the damage, Partitio is also highly capable of dealing damage with Hired Help, specifically with Veteran Mercenaries or Foreign Assassins. Between these three, we have a good variety of damage options and very high damage potential.

Floor Two – How to Defeat Ichchadhari the Snake Charmer

This fight is a massive step up from the previous one and where execution becomes very important. Like many of Octopath Traveler 2’s bosses, this one has summons that also locks out their weaknesses to prevent breaks.

Ichchadhari herself is weak to Polearm, Dagger, Bow, and Dark. With this being another status effect heavy fight, the same strategies for the first floor will also work here, just with some slight changes to equipment.

Her summons are weak to Sword, Axe, Ice and Light. As a result, getting Alephan’s Wisdom on a Cleric makes them exceptionally easy to break. While they have 4 shields, a physical attack can easily take care of the remaining point. They still have a whopping 22,000 HP though, making them fairly durable.

Key Mechanics

Ichchadhari herself doesn’t really have many attacks, instead often summoning her snakes and supporting them. She has basic Attacks, and a party-wide attack that hits twice called Twin Snake Spin. Though this attack will only be seen while she has two snakes summoned.

She’ll also use Paralyzing Fang, a single-target attack that inflicts Unconcious. If we have an Apothecary or are using Conscious Stones, we’ll be fine as it doesn’t deal high damage.

She also has access to Enfeebling Fang, which deals damage and lowers the physical defense of a single target for 3 turns. When this skill is followed by the use of Snakeshield Strut, it can be exceptionally lethal.

Snakeshield Strut is a defensive spell she will use often to mitigate the many physical weaknesses of her and her snakes. She’ll only use this while she has snakes active, and it will boost to Physical Defense of herself and all of her snakes for 2 turns.

She has a powerful move that she uses often regardless of her health, which triggers all active snakes to use Snake Session. When she uses this skill, she’ll say “time for the finishing blow”. This can also trigger after Ichchadhari uses Snakeshield Strut or Twin Snake Spin as well, making the next turn absolutely critical to break any snakes currently out.

Snake Session is a powerful multi-target physical attack that can inflict Blind and Poison. Thankfully Rehabilitate can mitigate both of these effects. Statuses aside, the damage dealt by this is incredibly high and will be used by every snake that isn’t broken, which adds up quickly.

Outside of this, the snakes can inflict confusion by using Befuddling Fang. Confusion isn’t super detrimental but will hinder anyone hit by it, making them attack random targets, including themselves and the party.

The snakes can also inflict Poison by using Venomous Fang as well. While this isn’t as detrimental, it can still weaken someone and make them more likely to fall to Snake Session.

No Advanced Job Strategy

This setup is basically identical to the previous fight since a lot of the same gimmicks are in play here. There are also more status effects being used, which makes the strategy ever so slightly more effective.

Ochette’s breaking power is a bit more critical here than in the previous fight because once a snake is on the field, Ichchadhari cannot be broken. This makes it a high priority to break her as soon as possible.

In the case that Ichchadhari is able to get snakes out right away, Hikari and Ochette working together are usually able to dispatch them fairly easily. We’ll have to use a bit of SP and BP to guarantee they go down, but it’s worth it usually.

Temenos as a Scholar is highly recommended for this fight, as he can more consistently break them quickly. This allows Hikari to use Learned skills like Divine Dual-Edge, or even Shinjumonjigiri to quickly finish the break and deal heavy damage to them.

Advanced Job Strategy

As stated previously, the setup listed under the first Advanced setup works well in all of the upcoming fights, this one is no exception. There is however a slight shift in how the strategy plays out. Those differences are explained below.

Due to this fight being a purely physical damage fight, this means Partitio can handle the defenses on his own this time. Only needing Sidestep is great as we’ll be able to set it up on Partitio’s second turn, or his first with the party. With no multi-hit attacks in this fight, Partitio will have an easy time maintaining this.

We’ll absolutely want to have Hikari for this fight, as his access to a wider variety of multi-hit skills. In particular skills like Frenzied Fire, Divine Dual-Edge, and Thousand Blades are all helpful options to have. We also give him Mikka’s Amulet to boost his Accuracy and Speed to make them all more reliable as well as allow him to act sooner.

For this fight, Temenos will primarily focus on helping to quickly break snakes with Lux Congere when they spawn. While he can also try to contribute additional burst when Ichchadhari is broken, it’s not worth doing unless it will absolutely guarantee the boss goes down.

Floor Three – How to Defeat Tyran The Seeker

This fight is a huge step up from the previous, though that doesn’t stop a lot of our previous strategies from working. We will however need to change some things around as Tyran the Seeker doesn’t mess around and starts dealing heavy damage right out of the gate.

Tyran the Seeker is weak to Sword, Bow, Fire, and Dark; while having a rather high Shield Health of 8. He does have 100,000 health though, so be prepared for a bit of a long fight without the great gear. This means we won’t have to change anything here in terms of breaking or damage strategies. With no summons to worry about, this often can be an easy floor, so long as we have the breaking power, but there are a few things to keep note of.

Key Mechanics

All of Tyran’s damage is physical, which can make it fairly easy to mitigate with a vary of strategies. He’ll primarily use a mix of regular attacks and a few skills that can be highly detrimental.

Focus Force is a skill he will use that is a weak damaging hit, but also saps 30% of the target’s SP on hit. This can be especially punishing on mages who rely on their SP, or Physical characters without any bonus SP.

Whirlwind Strike is a powerful party-wide hit that will deal significant damage. If our healer is well-geared, it can be out-healed, so long as he’s not using it on consecutive attacks.

When Tyran drops below 50% health, he’ll spend his next two turns, which always have priority in the turn order, setting up a permanent Counter and Reflect status. Thankfully, his counterattacks aren’t too strong, so if need be we can soak them up with a high-health party member, or evade them. His Shield Health will also increase to 10 here, so be careful.

While Tyran is under 25% health, he can single is most lethal attack. He’ll say “Witness the pinnacle of martial arts” which indicates his next turn he will use a powerful attack. Or, in this case a series of six powerful hits back to back.

Guardian Liondog is first, this is an attack that hits for low damage, but hit 5 times, targeting randomly. This can do a lot of damage, but overall due to the low damage per hit, it is less threatening unless Incite is used as a Warrior, which would focus the attacks instead.

Tiger Rage is up next, this attack is similarly low damage, but hits our entire party. This can also lower Physical Defense, at roughly a 50% chance. Definitely not a threat on its own but there are a few more attacks to get through which can make Physical Defense drops very painful.

Qilin’s Horn is next, and this attack on its own can definitely be a threat, as it’s a single-target attack that does high damage. Coming immediately after Tiger Rage means it has high KO potential unless it hits a high HP target.

Yatagarasu comes next, being another weak party-wide hit. This also has the unfortunate ability to lower Speed, also with a 50% chance. This can be painful, allowing him to act sooner into the next turn making recovering from this flurry of attacks much harder.

Fox Spirit is the 5th attack. This is another weak party-wide hit, this time with what appears to be a guaranteed Elemental Attack reduction. This can be painful if we break him after, as our mages will deal less damage.

The final of the six attacks is Phoenix Storm. This is an extremely powerful attack, and can very easily KO a party member if they have a defense drop, or without if they do not have the health of Physical Defense. For reference, this skill hit my highest physical defense character that was also unlucky to be hit by debuff from Tiger Rage and took 2,500 damage as a result.

All said and done, Tyran will deal around 1,200-1600 damage to the full party and depending on how Guardian Liondog, Qilin’s Horn, and Phoenix Storm land, upwards of 4,000 damage onto a single target. We’ll want to avoid this going off at all costs if our party is lower level.

For those familiar with Octopath Traveler, you may recognize these skill names as those used by Winnehild the Warbringer, and the Warmaster advanced job from that game. It’s a nice callback.

No Advanced Job Strategy

Since this fight is all about soaking up physical damage, we’ve made a couple adjustments to better mitigate most of this incoming damage.

As they have for the past couple fights, Ochette and Hikari work extremely well here to break our foe. With only 8 Shield Health to get through, Precise Shot and Aggressive Slash make quick work of it. Some Learned Skill and Tamed Beasts will also provide higher breaking potential, though Hikari may need an Unerring Neckalce to consistently lands some of his.

Ochette can also play an important role under the 50% health threshold. This is due to Abating Orb being able to remove Counter and Reflect effects very easily. She can also use Leghold Trap to ensure that even our slowest characters will move before Tyran, helping to ensure a break when he prepares his desperation move under 25%.

Temenos may need to focus more on healing this fight, due to the frequency of incoming damage. With support from Agnea granting him Sealticge’s Seduction, he’ll be able to apply both Prayer to the Flame and Sacred Shield to the party. This significantly cuts down on our incoming damage in the fight. To ensure he’s always able to heal or revive even in the worst possible scenarios, We’ve given him every defensive support skill that can help out, as well as items to boost his defenses and healing power.

Agnea will mostly be a support for this fight. Her main focus will be using the Thief skill called Shackle Foe to reduce Tyran’s Physical Attack. Additionally, she’ll be able to use Armor Corrosive to help set Hikari and Ochette up for huge damage. Occasionally, she’ll want to give Temenos Sealticge’s Seduction as mentioned to help him bolster defenses.

Advanced Job Strategy

As stated previously, the setup listed under the first Advanced setup works well in all of the upcoming fights, this one is no exception. There is however a slight shift in how the strategy plays out. Those differences are explained below.

Agnea gets to be a Hunter for this fight, not only to help with extra damage but also extra breaking power. If we can get our hands on it prior to this, definitely look to pick up the Hunter’s Bow from the In Search of Divine Weapons Side Story. This has a chance to double any cast Precise Shot, which can help to break faster and can lead up to a full 10 points of breaking power if it triggers on a fully-boosted cast.

We’re not setting her up for pure damage though, as she’ll be looking to buff the team, rather than deal damage herself. So she’ll mostly be looking to buff up Hikari and Temenos. As a Hunter, she’ll also be looking to use Abating Orb to remove Counter and Reflect. With Salt the Wound, she’ll have a chance to be able to get a free buff off on to either of our attackers if she breaks.

Like the previous fight, Partito is able to provide most of the defenses we need. We’ll also just need to be aware that we’ll need to prevent Tyran’s barrage of skills from going off, as it will absolutely destroy any Sidesteps we have built up. With a minimum of three hits, and up to a max of 10 hits across all of these attacks on a single character, this can still prove to be fatal if luck is not on our side.

Temenos remains our mage, though can support early breaking with the use of Fireball if needed. Once Tyran is broken we’ll likely want to chunk off as much of his HP as you can Heavenly Shine/Sacred Effulgence. Even without it being a weakness, it does heavy damage, though we’ll need to get Alephan’s Wisdom up and then get additional BP, likely from Partitio’s Share BP skill.

Floor Four – How to Defeat Audnvarg

Yes, this boss does actually use the Old English letter eth (ð) in its name. Though for simplicity’s sake, we’ll be using Audnvarg instead of Auðnvarg, as they read very similarly.

Audnvarg is a very gimmicky fight, and can easily be one of the most punishing fights in the whole tower, due to his mechanics. He does spawn with a Skull Roller, but this fragile enemy won’t be able to take a hit.

Audnvarg is weak to Axe, Bow, Fire, and Light. This makes our strategy for breaking foes up to this point still fairly consistent, though slightly weaker in general as we can only rely on Bow. Like our previous bosses, he also has 100,000 Health, but a slightly higher 9 Shield Health.

Key Mechanics

Of the bosses faced so far, Audnvarg by far deals the most direct damage, with basic attacks even dealing upwards of 1,000 damage. Between that and some of his other tricks we’re about to detail, this can be a rough fight if we’re not able to deal with him quickly.

Audnvarg will always use Beastly Diet on his first turn. This skill will have him devour one of our party members, completely removing them from the battle until he breaks broken.

This makes it very important to have two strong breakers and at least two characters capable of dealing good damage. Thankfully, while devoured none of our buffs will tick down and we’ll still have them after.

If Audnvarg is under 50% health, he’ll use the skill Observe.

This will increase his Shield Points to 11 while changing his weaknesses to Sword, Staff, Lightning, and Wind. He will remain in this state for the rest of the encounter.

One of his common attacks is Shred Leg. This is a weaker physical hit, but will permanently reduce the Speed of the character, if the attack connects. This makes it much more likely for Audnvarg to move first in a turn, which can be a huge problem.

Another common attack we’ll see is Shear Meat. This does fixed damage that lowers our character’s Maximum HP by 400. Since this is a status effect, rather than an attack, it will bypass effects like Sidestep or Veil of Darkness.

In addition to this, he’ll also frequently use Whirlwind Claw, a powerful party-wide attack. At least there’s no trickery with this skill, just heavy damage.

Less often, Audnvarg will also use Gouge Eyes. This skill deals heavy physical damage while inflicting Blindness on the targeted party member.

While below 50% HP, Audnvarg can also prepare his desperation skill, which we’ll see the message “The Enemy is gathering tremendous power.” Before using the skill Slice Off the following turn.

Slice Off is a combination of Whirlwind Claw and Shear Meat, which removes 800 Maximum HP, while also dealing Physical damage to the entire party twice. Much like Shear Meat, the HP reduction effect will still take place if we have over health. This skill in particular can be exceptionally lethal without the effects of overhealth.

No Advanced Job Strategy

There are two things we need to achieve with this party. One is to make sure we’re never without a source of healing. The Second is to make sure we have a strong breaker at all times. Since Audnvarg will reduce us to a party of three right out of the gate, we’ll need to be sure that we have two people for each duty. As such, some adjustments to the party need to be made.

Make no mistake, we’ll want to take Audnvarg down quickly. Between the effects, he can apply and constantly reduce our health, it’ll reach the point of no return if we’re not quick enough.

Agnea still stays dedicated to supporting here. This time, however, we’re giving her Cleric so we have stable healing even if Temenos get scooped up by Beastly Diet. This will also let her cast a nearly max duration Prayer to the Flame on the whole party with All Together Now. That way if she gets scooped up, she’s fulfilled her main role here. This is also why we give her a Sprightly Necklace, to try and ensure she gets an early move.

As per usual Ochette is on breaking duty. It’s highly recommended that she has the Hunter’s Bow if we’ve picked it up as she’ll do most of the heavy lifting in the regard. She’ll also want to maintain Leghold Trap on Audnvarg to nullify the effects of Shred Leg.

Hikari is one of our damage dealers here, though will rely heavily on Learned Skills to quickly break Audnvarg without using BP until he’s under 50%. We can opt to make Hikari a Hunter here as well, as this will give him access to bows. If possible, he should have the Battle-Tested Bow to have that chance of reducing physical defense with a multi-hit skill like Frenzied Fire.

Temenos is our other damage dealer but also helps to break quite well after getting Alephan’s Wisdom up. Lux Congere and Ignis Ardere are excellent here due to Audvarg’s Fire and Light weakness, making them both consistent breaking options. Ideally, we have him at or near full SP with a charge of Alepahn’s Wisdom when Audvarg is broken so he can deal heavy damage with Sacred Efflugence.

With Agnea’s help, assuming neither Agnea nor Temenos get scooped up by Beastly Diet, Temenos will want to use Prayer for Plenty while under the effects of Sealticge’s Seduction. This will slow down his initial damage potential as he’ll want to boost it but will give us plenty of Overhealth in the process. This will keep Shear Meat from dealing any actual damage to our team, making it a less threatening skill overall. This can also be repeated as necessary to give our team more HP to work with.

Advanced Job Strategy

As stated previously, the setup listed under the first Advanced setup works well in all of the upcoming fights, this one is no exception. There is however a slight shift in how the strategy plays out. Those differences are explained below.

We’ll be using Agnea as Cleric, for the same reasons detailed above in the party setup without advanced jobs. She’ll want to get off a Prayer to the Flame using All Together Now. This also gives us a healing option if Temenos get scooped up, and a defensive option if Partitio gets scooped up.

Partitio is here to do his usual thing. With all of Audvarg’s damage being physical, he’s able to provide significant defensive power here. This is further enhanced by the fact this will nullify all of his negative effects, and his attacks all being single hit for the most part. In the case Hikari gets scooped up, he should use Hired Help and call Beastling to quickly break Audvarg, this can be a little costly to do repeatedly though, so be warned.

Hikari should be a Hunter this time, as Armsmaster doesn’t provide us with much breaking power here. Precise Shot from the Hunter’s Bow can occasionally add extra breaking power. Should Hikari get scooped up, Partitio and Temenos both have Light Spells that can be enhanced by Advanced Magic/Alephan’s Wisdom to get easy breaks.

Temenos is filling his usual damage role here, but also get to help with breaking this time around. In the moments where Hikari gets scooped up, he’ll also need to provide Advanced Magic or Alephan’s Wisdom to Partitio as well for easy breaks without spending too many leaves.

Top Floor – How to Defeat Priestess Hinoekagura

Residing at the top of the tower is Priestess Hinoekagura, the toughest boss out of the whole set. She has a ton of gimmicks at her disposal, and double the health of the other bosses here at 200,000.

Priestess Hinoekagura is weak to Polearm, Bow, Ice, and Dark. With a modest starting Shield Health of 7, she’s a fair bit easier to break. Though, don’t let this deceive you as her gimmicks will change this often.

Key Mechanics

Being a Conjurer, Priestess Hinoekagura will essentially get to hit an extra time with every single one of her physical attacks after she uses Conjure Flames.

This is because all of her physical attacks will be followed up by a secondary fire elemental attack. This can lead to her dealing upwards of 2,000 between the two hits, even for basic attacks.

After conjuring an element and attacking she will say “Now, resist the onslaught”. This will change her away from her initial weaknesses, replacing them with Axe, Staff, Wind, and Light. She’ll also act three times on the following turn before reverting to her normal state.

While in this state, she’ll use Two-Step as one of her skills. This skill will hit two members of our party at random, dealing moderately high physical damage as well as calling the secondary attack. This does around 1,500 damage total on average.

She can also use Tripartite Dance, which deals low damage to a single target three times, while still calling the element. Since all of these attacks are focused on one parry member this end up dealing quite a bit of damage. This deals around 2,500 on average.

After recovering from a break or using her third action in the turn, she’ll revert back to her Young Woman form that she starts in. This also shifts her weakness back to the original set of weaknesses as well.

Back in this form, she’ll use new skills. One of these is Divine Winds, which deal high Wind Damage to the party. Thankfully as a magic attack, this will not trigger the follow-up attack. If multiple party members have reflect up, she’ll also take damage for each instance of it.

She also gets access to Sealing Ceremony. This status effect will prevent the affected character from acting until she is broken again. This is incredibly hard to deal with if it lands on the wrong person at the wrong time. This is because all of our buffs will still tick down, making a lot of shorter turn-based effects like Sealticge’s Seduction a little riskier to use.

While under 50% Health, Priestess Hinoekagura also gets an extra attack to use called Ill Omen, which is similar to the other bosses desperation attacks, but without the black aura. It’s activation is preceded by the phase “A merciless light shall shine down from the heavens…”

Ill Omen, like the other desperation attacks, will not go off until the following turn. However, this will not consume any of her actions and instead, go off immediately at the start of the turn. This is a five-hit Light attack, which hits random targets for around 800 – 1,200 damage. If we get particularly unlucky, this can be fatal to nearly anyone without increased Elemental Defense with just a few hits.

No Advanced Job Strategy

There’s one thing we need to focus on with this party, and that’s survival. Priestess Hinoekagura is an exceptionally strong foe, dealing heavy Physical and Elemental damage at the same time. Thankfully, our party from the previous floor requires very little changes to work exceptionally well.

Agnea is staying a Cleric here, just so it’s easier to maintain keeping Prayer to the Flame on the whole party with either Sealticge’s Seduction or All Together Now. This will be critical to making the damage in this fight more manageable. With a little help from Temenos, she can also contribute to breaking while Priestess Hinoekagura is in her Oni Form.

Ochette is still our main breaker, as while in Young Woman Form, the boss is still vulnerable to Bow. This makes our go-to strategy for breaking thus far still very effective. We’ll also want to give Ochette the Double Tomahawk if we’ve grabbed it, this will help her break Oni Form using basic attacks, two hits for 0 BP or SP is pretty great.

Hikari remains our main Damage still. Though we could really use any attacker here you want. As a Warrior, Hikari’s base Elemental Defense will be a bit low, so we’ll give him the highest tier of fire reduction amulet to reduce any KO potential. He can also use Learned Skills like Frenzied Fire to help break Young Woman form or Windswept Slash for Oni Form.

Temenos Is still our mage yet again, though can support Agnea with Advanced Magic to help Agnea’s healing potential and breaking power. We’ll want to go for a full power Sacred Effulgence when she breaks for huge damage.

Agnea’s first turn, since she’ll have a full boost should always be spent giving Sealticge’s Seduction to Partitio. Since this fight is both Physical and Elemental, we’ll want to be able to have him mitigate both. We’ll also be giving her A Step Ahead so she can use Windy Refrain with the first turn, ensuring everyone acts before the boss.

Partitio is yet again going to give us all the defenses we need. Using Seal of Diffusion to spread Sidestep and Sealticge’s Seduction to spread Reflective Barrier will keep us plenty safe. He should set up Seal of Diffusion on his first turn as normal, then use a fully charged Reflective Barrier turn two if Agnea goes before him, or Side Step if she moves after him. Turn three will be whichever wasn’t cast the previous turn.

Hikari is our main physical damage dealer, but really could be replaced by Ochette if desired. We’ll need Hunter either way for access to Axes and Bows. Ideally, we use the Hunter’s Bow and Double Tomahawk for the breaking power they provide, then use the Warrior’s Divine Skill for Damage. If we use Hikari we get access to extra burst potential through the use of Heinka from his Latent Power followed by a Divine Skill.

Temenos is still filling his usual role here. He’ll serve as a high source of damage after breaking, but also has decent Breaking potential while the boss is in Oni Form thanks to Lux Congerere.

Side Story Rewards

Upon completion of the fight with Preistess Hinoekagura, we’ll be given a few rewards.

New Advanced Job: Conjurer

Our first reward is that the Priestess will say we are worthy of her power, and grant us the Proof of the Conjurer. This enables the Conjurer Advanced Job for use.
