Destiny 2’s upcoming expansion, The Final Shape, is set to bring the game’s 10-year saga to a close on June 4, 2024. As the release date approaches, Bungie has taken steps to remove barriers to entry for new players and ensure a smooth experience for all. Destiny’s vice president, Mark Noseworthy highlighted the efforts made over the last three years to address common issues newcomers face.
These include skipping the introductory campaign, New Light, for those already familiar with shooters or Destiny.

Features like Fireteam Power and Fireteam Finder allow new players to join veteran friends and find groups for Raids. The Final Shape expansion also resets all players’ overall Power level, putting everyone on equal footing as they embark on this new chapter.

Closing Destiny 2’s decade-long saga
Luke Smith, Destiny’s executive creative director, expressed gratitude to the community and the development team’s hope that players enjoy the game. As players wait for The Final Shape’s downtime to end, cinematics director Jimmie Myers recommends the “helmet off” experience to appreciate the new cinematic animations fully.
With the recent addition of customizable Guardian appearances, players can now choose to reveal their characters’ faces during cutscenes. However, those eager to dive into The Final Shape should be prepared for substantial storage requirements.

Bungie announced that the expansion requires around 150 GB of space on all platforms, with PC players needing up to 299.70 GB on Steam and 279.66 GB on the Epic Games Store to preload the game.
Other platforms also demand significant space, with the PlayStation 4 requiring 110.70 GB, PlayStation 5 needing 143.81 GB, Xbox One requiring 139.52 GB, Xbox Series X|S needing 165.82 GB, and the Microsoft Store on PC needing 156.22 GB. Despite the challenges faced by Bungie, including the recent departure of around 100 employees, anticipation for The Final Shape remains high as players prepare for the conclusion of Destiny 2’s extensive narrative journey.
